Everything gets more muffled the deeper that I sink
The voices shift to static telling me what I ‘ought to think
But they don’t have this aftertaste, cause not everyone
Can just make it out unscathed
The nights they get longer now that the cold is setting in
More time inside this cage left with a lion to contend
With your enemies closer than friends
What happens when that beast is all there is
Now I’m falling back to someplace that I don’t belong
Some where when I try to move it feels wrong
In sticky mud, with brand new shoes
So I’m making my way now up the road
I got no gas money and wide, wide load
I’m luggin’ this corpse to somewhere slow
‘Cause it seems like the place for me
You know it feels like the place to be
‘Cause I’ve got nothing in these tired hands
So I’m falling back to someplace that I don’t belong
Somewhere when I try to move it feels wrong
In sticky mud, with brand new shoes…

These fields I’ve spent eleven summers on, have long since gone and died
‘Cause the water you gave me to moisten the land was filled with pesticide
Now nothing grows there not even the grass, that used to cover the ‘scape
But the hills still roll and the dust it kicks as the wind blows it away
Her eyes they speak one thousand words, but they scream one thousand more
And like a video game it was so surreal, the morning we had spent on board
Of this old, lost ship that searches the waves for a crest to call it’s own
Well we found it one and we gave it a name, and we watched it turn to stone
So let’s watch it sink, deep in the ocean
And here she comes, in through the kitchen
Into a room, with just a bed
‘Cause that’s all she needs
And I wish that were me…
When the bluest hour strikes it’s chord and the sun reaches for the sky
Twilight dances crossed our lips and it’s ambience grasps our eyes
It’s at this time that I realize what I have been missing for some time
So now I’ll mend this lack of vigor with a fix for you and I
So let’s watch it sink, deep in the ocean
And here she comes, in through the kitchen
Into a room, with just a bed
‘Cause that’s all she needs
And I wish that were me…
And if this is what they call a good catch
Then why do I want to throw them all back
And if you don’t have the cards I lack
I’m bluffing ‘till the end, I swear,
I’ll never fold a match
And if you think you reap what you sow
Then where is my Eden,
I’m so conceded I know
And if I could write my own tombstone
I’m pretty sure I’d fill it with joke after joke
So let’s watch it sink, deep in the ocean
